November 16, 2016

Join me for an exciting day that begins with a visit to an artist's studio and continues on to explore drawing, sculpture and painting at two Chicago galleries.

Come visit the studio of Tony Lewis, whose fascinating abstract drawings speak to issues of language and identity. Words are isolated and poetically organized to encourage personal, political and aesthetic meanings. Lewis' work was featured in the 2014 Whitney Biennial and has been exhibited internationally, including recent shows at the Aspen Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland. Renowned artist Theaster Gates' stunning bronze sculpture inspired by African ritual masks will be exhibited at Richard Gray Gallery. At Corbett vs. Dempsey we will see Rebecca Morris' vibrant paintings that celebrate abstraction while juxtaposing shapes, forms and loose patterns of marks. Enjoy lunch at the lively Doc B's restaurant .

Date Wednesday, November 16, 2016, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Location:  We meet at Tony Lewis' studio, 1907 N. Mendell Street, Chicago, Illinois 60642 at 10:30 a.m.
