Mott views her practice as a conversation about the way power and intimacy interact through the forms of her animal-human creatures. Come visit the studio of Dianna Frid, who works at the intersection of material texts and textiles. She makes artist’s books, works on fabric, drawings, and sculptures. In Frid’s work, embroidery is a prominent vehicle for exploring the relationships between writing and drawing. Her art is in many museum collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the DePaul Art Museum. At Monique Meloche Gallery, we will experience a stunning group show of artists, including Mickalene Thomas and Sanford Biggers, who use collage as a way to weave together narratives of personal histories and cultural identities. At Rhona Hoffman Gallery we will see work by prominent Chicago Imagist Margaret Warton, who deconstructs and transforms everyday objects, mostly chairs, into whimsical sculptures. Banish the winter blues and join me for an exciting day of looking at art.

Come see the studio of sculptor Chris Bradley, who is interested in the poetics of everyday objects, representation and tromp l’oeil techniques. His striking cast bronze sculpture, “Mnemonic” is currently featured in the 2023 Chicago Architectural Biennial at the Cultural Center. Bradley’s work has been exhibited nationwide including in the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Atlanta Contemporary and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. At Corbett vs. Dempsey we will see the fascinating collages of John Sparagana. He transforms images by cutting and remixing iconic pages from magazines and other sources. Come visit the studio of Jackie Kazarian, whose vibrant paintings evoke emotion and depth through her use of pattern, lush brushstroke, and rich color. Kazarian’s work has been exhibited internationally, including the permanent collections of the State of Illinois Art Museum, Rockford Art Museum, and the US Embassy, Armenia. Kazarian’s paintings were featured in the The Seldoms’ June dance performance, “Superbloom.” We will see Diane Simpson’s elegant sculpture inspired by architecture and clothing at Corbett vs. Dempsey. Simpson’s work was included in the 2019 Whitney Biennial. At Rhona Hoffman Gallery we will experience “Women on the Verge,” a provocative group exhibit by 27 women artists, including Cindy Sherman, Mary Lou Zelazny and Gladys Nilsson, responding to contemporary culture and art history. Come see the studio of painter Leslie Baum, whose use of different mediums expands how we think of painting. Baum was honored in New City Magazine’s fall arts issue as one of Chicago’s Art 50 2023. As stated by Regan Dockery, “A master at the manipulation of color, her paintings and installation work transport you into a world in which abstract form, shape and an exploration of color take precedence over the narrative …” Baum’s work is in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Elmhurst Art Museum. Recent solo exhibitions include the Chicago Cultural Center and The Arts Club of Chicago. At Rhona Hoffman Gallery we will see stunning oil paintings by Iraqi artist Bassim Al-Shaker. Al-Shaker is internationally recognized for his work based on his experiences growing up before and after the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq. Kaveri Raina’s sensual and meditative paintings exhibited at Patron Gallery reference personal and art-historical imagery while using recurring abstract forms taken from cinema and fantasy. Come see the studio of internationally acclaimed artist Jessica Stockholder, who  breaks down the boundaries between painting, sculpture and architecture. Stockholder combines everyday objects with painting and sculpture to create colorful, complex installations that often extend beyond windows and doors. Her work is in the permanent collections of many museums including the Whitney Museum of Art, New York; The Art Institute of Chicago; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. At Richard Gray Gallery, we will see renowned painter Susan Rothenberg’s iconic 1974-1977 series: the profile horse paintings. Come see the studio of Judith Mullen, whose work is inspired by nature and wandering in the forest. In Judith’s words, “Interweaving elements of the natural world with the man-made is an attempt to find a balance between strength and fragility while keeping open the possibility for change and transformation….” Judith has exhibited her work nationally for the past 20 years. Last fall she had a terrific show at Devening Projects. At Corbett vs. Dempsey, we will see exciting new work by Molly Zuckerman-Hartung who pushes the boundaries of traditional two-dimensional painting with abstract sculptural works that embrace collage, found objects and weaving. Samuel Levi Jones’ stunning paintings created from deconstructed book covers will be exhibited at Patron Gallery’s beautiful new space. Enjoy lunch at the delicious Southwestern restaurant Flo.

Geichman's work is in museums nationwide including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the National Academy Museum, NY and the Rockford Art Museum. At Monique Meloche Gallery we will see the unique new work of Candida Alvarez. In Alvarez's beautiful air paintings she creates the sensation of boundless color and form. Shannon Finley's breathtaking abstract paintings will be exhibited at Carrie Secrist Gallery. Join me for an exciting day that begins with a visit to an artist's studio and continues on to explore painting, sculpture and collage at two West Town galleries.

Come visit the spectacular studio of Wesley Kimler, whose powerfully evocative paintings with vivid, deep hued fields of color are breathtaking. Kimler had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago in 1995, and his work is part of their permanent collection, along with other museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Smart Museum, Chicago. At Corbett vs. Dempsey we will see the fascinating collages of John Sparagana. He transforms images by cutting and remixing iconic pages from magazines and other sources. At Rhona Hoffman Gallery we will see the striking paintings and sculpture of Jacob Hashimoto, who creates complex worlds out of handcrafted paper and wood kites. Enjoy lunch at the delicious Southwestern restaurant Flo.

Join me for an exciting day that begins with a visit to the home of art dealer Monique Meloche. We will see the interaction between Monique’s art and lifestyle in this visually exciting space. The tour will continue to explore painting, drawing and sculpture at two Chicago galleries.

At Richard Gray Gallery we will view Leon Polk Smith’s geometric abstract paintings in an exhibit entitled “Endless space.” Smith’s large, vibrantly colored shapes stretch the boundaries of the canvas. At Kavi Gupta Gallery we will experience Manish Nai's fascinating new paintings and sculpture. Nai’s colorful work distills the essence of contemporary Mumbai, where he lives. He is known for using indigo-dyed jute, used clothes, and the diverse newspapers of India as the raw material for his practice. Enjoy lunch at the lively Little Goat Diner.
